Hem ASCAP Audio Portrait Source: Streaming Audio from http://www.ascap.com/audioportraits/hem.html Show notes: Less than two years after a critically acclaimed debut, Hem has revived the 'countrypolitan' sound of the '70s. The eight-piece band, featuring Sally Ellyson's smoothe, detached vocals, has recorded a CD mixing country, folk and tin pan alley songs backed by the Slovak Radio Orchestra. The result is a much larger, moodier sound, fusing folk sensibilities and the power of an orchestra. Hem Tracks: * Bigger Sounds - Dan Messe says Hem's second CD explores the countrypolitan sounds of the 1970s, unlike their first CD, Rabbit Songs. * The Fire Thief - Dan Messe says a major theme of the CD is finding comfort. * Songwriting - Dan Messe compares bandmate Steve Curtis' songwriting style to his own. * "Carry Me Home" - Dan Messe on the mysterious roots of the CD's last song.
